The Big Freeze

So I'm sitting in front of the computer and Im all bundled up in triple layers of clothing with a polar fleece blankie wrapped around me, hat pulled down over my ears and a scarf wrapped round my neck so tightly its like a neck brace. The weather website says that its about 4 deg. C (with the sun shining) but it feels like -2 deg C because of wind chill, the wind blowing at about 38 kms/hour.

We have to keep the door open so that the dogs can run in and out so that chilly wind is coming right into the house. I have been sitting at the computer for a while but my fingers feel like they are getting frostbite so its almost time to escape to the bedroom where at least the heater has warmed the room up nicely.

I believe that in some corners of the world, people are experiencing a heat wave but its hard to imagine when sitting in the freezer!

Wherever you are I hope the temperature is comfortable and you are having a great relaxing day..:)

  1. Hey, you're in the southern hemisphere.

It only took me about 6 months to realize that.

    My hangover epiphany.

  5. Ha! Now I'm glad we don't have a dog because having the door open in this cold does not appeal to me at all.

  6. Coffey - I wish I could. It wouldnt be so bad if only this icy wind would stop... 3 days and counting!

Louisa - Ive actually locked the dogs inside now and put a heater in the lounge with a blankie to tempt them to all shut the heck up and go to sleep. Ja dogs, they're another story!

  8. I too had to think about it - WHY are you cold in July ???? We're ROASTING in Missouri, USA!!! But you're in South Africa. As we say so intelligently here in the 'States, "DUH!!!" ;)

  9. Cat - Hopefully this is the last really cold snap before it starts warming up...

Conny - In South Africa, we have autumn from March to May and winter from June to August. In Johannesburg, winter can reach minus temperatures and in fact we have snow in some places like the Karoo (Cape) and Drakensberg (Kwazulu Natal) provinces where motorists are trapped at the moment waiting for the roads to be cleared. Generally though Kwazulu Natal is about ten degrees warmer than Johannesburg where I am now. In fact the weatherman today was saying that Durban would be 23degC today while Johannesburg would be 17degC. :) I think they talking about midday temps. Thank you for your warm wishes...!
