Why do I like cats so much?

Dael went off somewhat miserable this morning. He has been told that he has to work 12-hour shifts until the end of the week - 6am until 6pm. His work colleagues told him that last year for about three months they worked 12-hour shifts non-stop. On top of that he has overspent this week and hasn't got any money left. He is now determined to get work with more reasonable hours but until then...

Bradley is busy with an entrepreneurship project at school and I purchased a box of 48 chocolate marshmallow Easter eggs for him to sell at school. I packaged some of the eggs in plastic tied with ribbon. He couldn't wait to tell me after school today that he had sold most of the eggs already. Budding little salesman in the making!

So why do I like cats so much? Because they're always the same. They don't have anything planned, no homework to do, nothing to buy, nowhere to go, no issues about life. As I walk in the door they don't ask "what did you buy me?" - although they do demand milk as soon as I boil the kettle. They don't wear holes in their shoes, don't even need shoes. They don't outgrow their clothes. They don't play music loud or get bored! They are always pleased to see me, are never rude, don't 'forget' to bath - they are self-sufficient with minimal input from me.

I love my children dearly but they can sometimes push my buttons too much and its comforting to just sit with my kitty-cats and hear those satisfied purrs as I stroke them and to know that all they want from me is a bit of attention.

  1. A lady after my own heart. I have a precious bundle of white fur in my lap as we speak with his little engine going just because I'm near.
There aint no love like kitty love :)

  2. "because they are always the same"

We need that certainty, that stability.

  3. I miss cats. Grew up with them, but we're all allergic. sigh. My boys have stuffed animal kittens that they are constantly animating. It's so sweet to hear how much they love their kittens even though they've never actually grown up with a real live cat.

  4. I have nothing against cats. I even like them... at a distance... I am eeeeggggstreeeemly allergic to cats. Cats entering a 3 metre radius from me will cause my chest to become tight and wheezy. My nose and eyes will start running and itching, after which it will become blocked totally. Not a nice experience all together...

  5. I have a dog and I love her so. When I come home from work she smiles at me. Literally! When I come home I tell her "show me your teeth" and she does.

    Totally warms my heart!

  6. That Girl - Cats are definitely awesome and they would be the first to say so!

    FF - Totally totally agree!

Lakeviewer - After any gruelling session with the kids I retreat to the comforting company of the furry ones.

ZipnTizzy - Sorry your kids can't have real furbabies but at least you are fostering a love for animals. Hopefully they will outgrow their allergy in time.

Spear - You would definitely be the person that a cat would gravitate to. Cats are sadistic like that!

Travel girl - Thats so cute. Don't anyone tell me animals can't understand. Even my fish communicate with me!

  7. Hear hear! I think cats are the best. So self sufficent, needing a little care, but so easy.

  11. Miss T - So true and to me a loving pet makes a house seem like a home. They are members of my family.

  12. Although I'm mostly a "dog person" I do like cats too. I used to have both cats and dogs. Unfortunately I'm also very allergic to them.

  13. A friend of mine always said cats have the best gig in the world--just sleep, eat, purr, cuddle, and catch the occasional mouse...and if they don't catch any mice, most owners would be all the happier.

  14. My mom called me about an hour ago and said she just picked up a new cat from the pound. I had been bugging her to get a new cat after she had to put her old sick cat down because I felt like she was lonely, but she kept saying she didn't want another one. She wanted to be more "footloose" and then she calls now and says she got one. I'm happy she has a companion!
